The ASCPT Member of the Month is a forum to recognize and thank a member of ASCPT who has supported the Society's endeavors. Each month on its web site, ASCPT highlights one member who has gone above and beyond the call of duty! We also highlight the Member of the Month, along with two other members, in each issue of Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics. We hope you will enjoy learning about fellow members and as always, encourage your participation in Society events and activities.
ASCPT is proud to recognize Dr. Kathryn Momary as the August Member of the Month.
Dr. Momary is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice at Mercer University in Atlanta, GA. She joined ASCPT in 2005 and has devoted much of her volunteer time and talent to the organization.
Dr. Momary sees the field of clinical pharmacology as a bridge between research and patient care, which "is rapidly incorporating and embracing new tools and quantitative techniques (pharmacogenomics, imaging, modeling and simulation, etc) into its core." Having graduated with honors from the University of Florida, College of Pharmacy, Dr. Momary started her career as an instructor in clinical pharmacology at the University of Illinois at Chicago. In her current position at Mercer, she serves as an Institutional Review Board Member and Continuing Education Committee Member. Dr. Momary also volunteers her time to developing young minds as a high school Fulton County Science Fair Judge. Since 1999, she has published 9 papers, 11 abstracts.
In 2006, she was awarded the ASCPT Presidential Trainee Award for her top trainee abstract entitled, "Vitamin K Epoxide Reductase Complex 1 Polymorphism and Warfarin Dose in African Americans." At the 2008 Annual Meeting, she served as Chair and speaker for the Mentoring Workshop. She currently volunteers as a member of the Website Task Force and the Scientific Program Committee. Membership in ASCPT has helped Dr. Momary to form "many professional relationships, which always help a young scientist to grow and develop. I have found this to be invaluable in my career thus far."
Thank you, Dr. Momary, for your valuable leadership and continued commitment to ASCPT and the discipline of clinical pharmacology!
