ASCPT Member of the Month
The ASCPT Member of the Month is a forum to recognize and thank a member of ASCPT who has supported the Society's endeavors. Each month on its web site, ASCPT highlights one member who has gone above and beyond the call of duty! We also highlight the Member of the Month, along with two other members, in each issue of Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics. We hope you will enjoy learning about fellow members and as always, encourage your participation in Society events and activities. ASCPT is proud to recognize Dr. Nancy Lass as the July Member of the Month. Dr. Lass is the President of NL Specialty Consulting, Inc., Westchester, IL; a Senior Lecturer at Northeastern University, Boston, MA; & a Lecturer at the University of Chicago, Chicago, IL. She has volunteered for many service opportunities through the Society, including current positions on the Scientific Program Committee, Council on Education in Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, and Chair of the Drug Safety and Outcomes Research Scientific Section. Since the mid-eighties, Dr. Lass has contributed to the field of clinical pharmacology, specifically in pediatrics. She has published 11 papers, given a plethora of lectures, and contributed several chapters to the Textbook of Complimentary and Alternative Medicine. Dr. Lass sees the most exciting area of clinical pharmacology as the opportunity to "begin to personalize therapeutics for patients…[especially] when you consider the impact on patient safety and those with special dosing challenges (pediatrics, geriatrics, ethnicity)." She enjoys clinical research because of the challenges: "determining causal relationships between new drugs and adverse events often still feels like solving a good mystery novel." As a member of ASCPT, Dr. Lass has enjoyed the "cutting-edge science and new discoveries on a variety of topics within the discipline, [and] the Annual Meeting is always a good learning experience and networking opportunity." Not only does Dr. Lass devote her time and talents to ASCPT, but she is also very active in her community. She performs as an alto in the Chicago Symphony Chorus, and volunteers for Concordia University Chicago as a member of the Health Care Task Force, member of the President's Advisory Council, and chair of the Foundation Board of Directors. Thank you, Dr. Lass, for your valuable leadership and continued commitment to ASCPT and the discipline of clinical pharmacology!
