ASCPT Member of the Month
The ASCPT Member of the Month is a forum to recognize and thank a member of ASCPT who has supported the Society's endeavors. Each month on its web site, ASCPT highlights one member who has gone above and beyond the call of duty! We also highlight the Member of the Month, along with two other members, in each issue of Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics. We hope you will enjoy learning about fellow members and as always, encourage your participation in Society events and activities. ASCPT is proud to recognize Dr. Joseph S. Bertino, Jr., as the May Member of the Month. Dr. Bertino currently serves as the Principal for Bertino Consulting in Schenectady, NY. He has been a member of ASCPT since 1988 and has volunteered in multiple roles, including as a member of the Nominating Committee and an expert reviewer for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics. Dr. Bertino believes that teaching the principals of drug use to physicians, dentists, nurses, pharmacists, physician's assistants, etc is most beneficial to patients: "busy clinicians often either don't think in depth about clinical pharmacology or their knowledge may not be fully current. The role of a clinical pharmacologist is not just in research, but in assisting in the care of the patient as well as teaching others how to use and monitor drug therapy, while making it interesting and exciting." For Dr. Bertino, these types of interactions are a "wonderful professional perk." In addition to enlightening professionals in the field of medicine, Dr. Bertino sees the enormous challenge of educating public and government officials: "we have a long way to go." Thank you, Dr. Bertino, for your valuable leadership and continued commitment to ASCPT and the discipline of clinical pharmacology!
